Beaches, Beaches, Beaches!

The HACIENDA TAMARINDO is situated on a hilltop overlooking the spectacular azure/aquamarine waters of the Caribbean. A path leads to the shore, but we don't refer to it as "the beach". It's a "beachcomber's" paradise; perfect for miles of strolling, shelling and collecting beach glass, driftwood and other found objects. The true, swimming beaches are as close as five minutes away by car.

There are no hotels located on the Caribbean beaches in Vieques. As a matter of fact, there is nothing located on the beaches! Not  a beach bar, not a T-shirt shop, not a hamburger stand, and not a souvenir stand-Just palm trees and sea grapes shading soft, white sand that runs to the crystal clear waters.

The beaches are scattered over the island. The closest to us (5 minutes by jeep) is the beautiful Sun Bay (great for walking). Just beyond that is Media Luna (calm and shallow), then Navio (the ultimate place for waves and body surfing). Almost all of our guests rent jeeps to explore all that the island has to offer and to get to the beaches.

Punta Arenas or Green Beach is on the western end of the island. It offers wonderful snorkeling close to shore. A reserve, you can literally walk the shore for miles.

And now, after three long years, the spectacular beaches on the East end (former Navy land) are re-opened. Red, Garcia, Secret, Blue and Orchid are some of the most beautiful and pristine beaches in all the Caribbean.

We can steer you to beaches where you can have the whole cove to yourself.

The entire Eastern end of the island, over 15,000 acres, has been turned over to the US Department of Fish & Wildlife and is now the largest Wildlife Reserve in the Caribbean. Now open, on what used to be US Navy land, are some of the most spectacular beaches in the Caribbean, such as Blue Beach, Garcia Beach and Red Beach. Almost all our guests rent jeeps to explore all that the island has to offer and to get to the beaches.
